I got a nervous text from Jonny a few days before their wedding day as England were leading Croatia in the World Cup semi-finals asking if I had a TV screen I could bring with me to show the final if England were to get through, a match which would be played at the same time they were due to be married - not something they had been able to predict two years ago when they booked the date!
Fortunately (or unfortunately for those who were looking forward to the end of 52 years of hurt!), the TV screen was surplus to requirement, not that Jonny and Becky’s day was going to be upstaged by some small football match anyway! They had chosen a fabulous venue for their wedding, The Normans just outside York, somewhere I have photographed at before and love returning to as there is always something different to shoot. One thing that remains the same though is the warm welcome that guests receive from the staff, especially owners Oliver and Laura Robinson, who have done an amazing job turning the family farm into a stylish and very cool wedding venue.
They had also chosen one of the hottest days of the year (which is saying something in a year that was the joint hottest summer on record!), but The Normans offers plenty of spaces to cool down and when the temperature did fall later in the evening, we were able to get out into the fields surrounding the venue and to get some stunning sunset shots. It also gave Becky and Jonny an opportunity to try out some of their cheerleading moves (I love the one of the Becky leaning into Jonny), which is how they met in Leeds.
It was a pleasure working with Becky and Jonny who are a fun and laid-back couple with a great set of family and friends around them who I enjoyed getting to know on the day. I wish them both every happiness and many more years of cheerleading together!
